Preparation for Ultrasound

Please wear comfortable clothes in preparation for your ultrasound
exam.  In some cases you may be asked to wear a hospital gown.

Abdomen Ultrasound: 
Nothing to eat or drink, including gum, after midnight and on the day
of the exam. Please take your medications.

Pelvic Ultrasound:   A full bladder is required for this exam. 
Drink at least 4 (8 oz.) large glasses of water (or some other drink)
one hour prior to appointment time and hold.  Do not empty bladder.
 
OB Ultrasound: 
1st trimester:    Drink at least 3 (8 oz.) glasses of water 1 hour prior to exam.
                           Do not empty bladder.
2nd trimester:   Drink at least 2 (8 oz.) glasses of water 30 minutes prior to exam.
                            Do not empty bladder.
