Preparation for a CT exam

Preparation for the scan varies, depending upon the part of your body being
examined.  We require that you have nothing to eat or drink 4 hours prior to
your exam, except for medications.  If you are on Glucophage medication or
have severe allergies, please call for specific instructions.  Please bring a
current list of all medications you are taking.

For CT exams of the abdomen and/or pelvis, we require you to pick up oral
contrast, which can be obtained in the Imaging Department at least  12 hours
prior to the exam.  Drink the entire container one hour prior to the exam.  Do
not eat or drink anything until your exam is complete.  In some cases, it may be
necessary to administer a contrast dye intravenously.
